As independent insurance adjusters, NAIIA members know better than most how unpredictable risk can be—and how important it is to manage costs without sacrificing protection. Health insurance is no different. With renewals approaching for January 1, 2026, now is the time to evaluate options that balance affordability, access, and long-term stability.
One solution gaining traction among small businesses and independent professionals is Ameristead Health, a program with strong protection that delivers the savings of a captive model while maintaining the security of predictable costs.
Why Ameristead Matters for Adjusters and Small Firms
Independent adjusters often operate in small teams or as sole proprietors. Traditional small-group or ACA individual plans can be expensive, inflexible, and prone to annual rate hikes, especially this year in the political environment. Ameristead was designed to address these pain points:
- Nationwide Coverage – All plans (except Value HSA) use the Cigna’s PPO network, giving members access to one of the largest provider networks in the country. The Value HSA plan uses an Open Access model that requires preauthorization for all covered services.
- $0 Preventive Care – Annual checkups and tele-doctor visits are included at no cost across all tiers.
- Rate Stability – Captive block pricing helps protect against the volatility that plagues traditional small-group renewals.
Plan Options and Premiums
Ameristead offers five tiers to fit different needs and budgets:

Underwriting and Eligibility
- 1–10 lives: Each Small groups 1-10 employees completes a Knockout Health Questionnaire. If all answers are “No,” the applicant qualifies and will receive firm rates as provided above. Is 2 or more in the same group you list billing is offered.
- 10+ lives: A traditional group underwriting process applies, requiring census data and (if available) current plan information. The group will receive a “YES or NO” response on whether they qualify for coverage for the entire group and will receive firm rates as provided above. More than 1 plan can be selected.
- Self-employed adjusters: Eligible as they must attest to being a sole proprietor, EIN holder, or W-2 employee sponsored by an employer.
This streamlined process makes Ameristead accessible to both small firms and independent professionals.
Why Timing Matters: The 1/1/2026 Window
Health insurance renewals are cyclical, and January 1st is the single most common effective date for small businesses. Waiting until December to explore options often means rushed decisions and missed opportunities. By evaluating Ameristead now, NAIIA members can:
- Lock in 12 months of stable rates before ACA and small-group increases hit.
- Compare side-by-side with current coverage to identify savings opportunities.
- Plan ahead for employee communication, ensuring a smooth enrollment process.
Enrollment and Administration
- Cutoff Date: The 20th of the month prior to the effective date (e.g., for 1/1/2026, enrollment must be completed by 12/20/2025). If seeking a 2/1/2026 effective date then 1/20/26 cutoff and so on.
- First Premium: Due at enrollment, payable via ACH or credit card.
- ID Cards: Issued promptly once enrollment is processed by the Third-Party Administrator (TPA).
- List Billing: Available for groups of 2+ employees.
